Discussing the hidden histories of local African Americans is the goal of a day-long symposium held on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University on Saturday November 12th, 2011. This event is hosted by the African and African American Studies (AAAS) program and Tinner Hill Historical Society. Last year's attendance was approximately 100 guests from Mason, the Washigton DC metro area, and throughout Northern Virginia. The idea for this program partly grew out of AAAS director Wendi Manuel-Scott’s interest in recovering the history of African Americans in Northern Virginia communities.
