The Joyce-Gillespie-Harrington Educational and Charitable Foundation, Inc. (JGH) of Zeta Upsilon Lambda Chapter, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the African and African American Studies Program (AAAS), and the George Mason University Foundation, Inc. will continue their collaboration to offer the Paul Robeson Saturday Leadership Academy (PRSLA). AAAS and PRSLA are proud to welcome the newest partner, the United States Marine Corps. In similar fashion to previous sessions, participants and their  families can expect the Academy to be rigorous academically while socially enriching and empowering to middle school and ninth grade high school students.

PRSLA Spring 2013 will be comprised of a four-week session. Morning classes will begin 9:00AM, and last until 2:00PM. The emphasis remains on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Robotics, Mentoring, and Cultural and Diversity Sensitivity. Reading, writing, research, critical thinking, and study skills are also pertinent. Students and their families will also receive guidance in the social and emotional issues related to excelling in advanced placement courses and matriculating into college.

The Academy seeks to identify a diverse group of current female and male middle school through ninth grade students living within the Greater Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area who are academically talented, of the highest character, and demonstrative leadership potential. Student applicants must be from families who are supportive of their child’s educational success. Scholarships will be available for students who show economic need, based upon family income. For more information, please visit the application link to complete your spring session application, or access it on the JGH website. A completed application must be submitted by March 15, 2013.
