Explores the intersection of sport history and film and how feature movies, documentaries, shorts, newsreels, and other cinematic forms not only can be used as tools of history instruction but also viewed as products of a particular historical era and cultural setting. Among the themes and subjects examined are sport and early filmmaking; race, class, ethnicity, and gender and sport; history of intercollegiate athletics; amateurism; interscholastic sport; nationalism; global politics and sport; mythmaking; and hero-worship.
